Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga is the mobile RPG I've been wanting for a while: it respects the small screen but doesn't dumb down the systems. Battles are turn-based and readable, with clear icons and a party you actually grow attached to. The writing is a step above what I expected, with characters who bicker and change over the campaign.
Combat rewards planning. You mix elemental attacks, buffs, and positioning, and there's real satisfaction in setting up a combo that clears a tough fight. Auto-battle exists for grinding, but I found myself turning it off for the boss encounters because they're the good part.
Menus can get busy, and there's a learning curve in the first hour. Once it clicks, though, the interface stays out of your way. Battery use is on the higher side during long story sessions, so I'd lower the frame rate in settings if you're away from a charger.
What we liked
- Genuinely good writing and characters
- Deep but readable turn-based combat
- Optional auto-battle for grinding
